A Shared Dream

The Lambda Xi Omega Chapter in Thomasville, GA supported the vision to establish the chapter in Tift County. In June 1987, seven additional members of Lambda Xi Omega: Joan P. Cobb, Gail Hightower, Veronica Graydon, Terry Graydon, Alma Taylor, Dorothene Taylor, and Eleanor B. Waller rolled up their pink  and green sleeves and joined the three visionaries in pursuing the Dream.

In 1988, ten other ladies: Tommie Faye Bateman, Brenda A. Holmes, Naomi Jenkins, Joan Marshall, Lavonia Mathis, Gloria Nichols, Edith Nixon, Jamaine Nixon, Betty Parson, and Sharlene Whitfield, who were members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., residing in the Tifton area joined the talented ten in pursuing the dream.

This group of “20” brave, gifted, and intelligent ladies are the December 3, 1989, Charter Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Sigma Alpha Omega Chapter.

In the year 1984, three dynamic and inspiring women—Jennifer Ivey, Kim Ezekiel, and Alice Parson—who were all distinguished members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Lambda Xi Omega Chapter of Thomasville, Georgia, came together with a shared Dream.

That Dream was to one day establish a chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority right in Tift County. After countless hours of dedication, hard work, and unwavering determination, that Dream gradually transformed into a beautiful reality.
